The Else Kröner Foundation Medical Scientist Research Group (EKF MSG) Lübeck is an interdisciplinary initiative hosted by the University of Lübeck. Our mission is to advance the understanding of “metaflammation,” exploring the complex interactions between metabolic dysfunction, chronic inflammation, and cancer biology. Through close collaboration between clinical practitioners and basic researchers, we aim to bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and real-world patient care, developing innovative solutions to address pressing medical challenges. To support this mission, PhD positions are offered for both national and international students within the MSG program, which provides structured training and research opportunities over a three-year period.

About
Our research group

The EKF MSG Lübeck focuses on a close integration of basic and clinical research. The PhD students are trained in both clinical processes and the latest laboratory procedures in order to promote the direct translation of research results into practice. They also receive comprehensive training in regular clinical rotations at the UKSH and at the university's core platforms and gain experience in various specialist areas such as molecular biology, metabolomics and cell biology. The EKF MSG Lübeck is also closely integrated into existing research networks and structured programs such as the Cluster of Excellence "Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation" (PMI), the Detlef Zillikens Clinician Scientist Academy and other programs on the Lübeck campus. Through these collaborations, the PhD students benefit from an interdisciplinary environment that offers advanced technologies and direct insights into clinical practice, thus strengthening translational research.
